Newness

This past month has been a month of newness: new school, new city, new state, and a new life chapter. I have recently accepted my admission and fellowship offer to Claremont Graduate School in warm and sunny (300 days of the year, in fact) "City of Trees and PhDs". I will be working towards my PhD in English with an emphasis in Early Modern Studies (if you think of Shakespeare and his contemporaries you are mostly there). As I learn more about my program and my plan of study I will keep you updated. Right now, there are still many uncertainties (and many more anxieties) as I get ready for the start of the Fall 2012 term.

Here is what I do know:
I'm three weeks away from finishing my MA. I have already defended my thesis, "Producing Early Modern Space and the Mind in Public and Closet Drama" and I have been fortunate enough to work with this guy: http://www.uni.edu/langlit/swan during my tenure at the University of Northern Iowa.

I will be teaching my last term for the Culture and Intensive English Program this summer (and I will also be couch surfing during this time as well--have a couch in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area thru June and July--lemme know). For a little about that position see: Super Sexy Pic and biography (though I'm not entirely sure who wrote the biography).

Somehow between now and 4.Sept.2012 I need to move my life from Cedar Falls, Iowa to Claremont, California. This includes (but is not limited to): finding employment, getting a place to live, finishing the MA, careful financial planning, explaining to my parents the amount of time and work involved in doctoral studies, driving Route 66, signing up for classes, making my way thru a lengthy summer reading list, brushing up on mi espaƱol, numerous lists and things I haven't even thought of yet, and some really difficult goodbyes.

I'm excited, nervous, optimistic, terrified, prepared, scattered, confident, and panicked at any give point each day as I embark on this journey--so bear with me.

More Soon!
